This week we had a wonderful time in our Embroidery class. Here's a peak at some work in progress...
The first step was the fun task of choosing delicious threads to stitch with.
Fiona and her daughter Emily joined us and produced some wonderful work.

Sewing with Sandra.
Sandra studied
costume making at NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art. Since then Sandra
has worked on such films as Moulin Rouge. Remember THAT corset worn by Nicole
on the trapeze, Sandra made it! Others include Oscar and Lucinda and Mission
Impossible, so you will clearly be in capable hands.
Beginners Sewing.
This class is for
people wanting to learn how to sew; this class is great to build up your basic
confidence if you haven’t sewn before or not for a long time. In this two week
class you will be taught the basics of straight and curved machine sewing,
learning about the sewing machine as you sew. Make an apron using your new
found skills as part of the class.
Dates: Tuesday 1st
and 8th September
Time: 6.30pm to 9.00pm
Cost $80.00 plus one metre of
fabric $26.00 to make the apron. (Choose your fabric during the first class.)
Students per class: 6
Level 1 sewing.
If you can use a
machine for basic sewing but want to learn how to put in a zip or increase your
skills, this is your class. Learn how to use the zipper foot on your machine and
other techniques to make you a more confident sewer. You will need your
own sewing machine with zipper foot, and dress making scissors for
this class.
Over two weeks make
a great simple lined tote bag with a zipper pocket. Once you have made one
you’ll be making bags for everyone.
Dates: Tuesday 15th
and 22nd September
Time: 6.30pm to 9pm.
Cost: $115 which
includes everything to make your bag.
Students per class: 6
Embroidery
Learn basic
embroidery stitches that will open your world to embellishment. Back stitch,
chain stitch, running stitch and french knots are the four main stitches we use
over and over at Prints Charming. A hand printed motif for you to embellish is
included in the cost of the class.
Date: Tuesday 29th
September
Time: 6.30pm- 9pm.
Cost $44.00. (Includes hand printed motif)
Level 2 sewing.
This class is for
sewers who have their own machine and are confident using it but want to take
their sewing to a new level. By making your own a-line skirt you will learn
about fitting and making your own alterations. Invisible zip insertion, bias
binding, and reading the pattern. You will cut your skirt pattern to size
keeping the pattern so you can make more with you new found skills. This class
is run over three weeks and it is preferable you have your own machine. You
will find it easier learning with your own machine, and Sandra will be
able to answer any questions relevant. You will need to pop in to buy your skirt fabric before the class
starts, this ensures you just getting straight into sewing on the night.

13th , 20th and 27th October
Time: 6.30pm
to 9pm
Cost $140 plus fabric. (Come in to buy your fabric beforehand, see website for store open times.)

Friday Quilt Making
with Beverly...
or sewing cleverly
with Beverly, an experienced sewer and crafter who will guide you through the
world of patchwork and quilting. Over five weeks learn the basics, from reading
a pattern, rotary cutting and the sewing techniques you will need to create you
own quilt top.
The first class
will be spent choosing your colours, fabrics and design for you quilt. This is
the fun part as we help you to achieve just the quilt your after. We believe in
simple, effective and achievable quilts that will inspire you to go on and
create many more. This class is run over five weeks. You will also need, if you don’t
already have, a rotary cutter, rotary ruler and cutting mat. You can buy these
from us, or bring with you, and they will be a great asset for this quilt and
others that you will want to make. Please let us know at time of booking if you
wish to buy these from us.
Dates: Friday 31st
July and the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th
of August.
Time: 9.30am-12.30pm
Cost: $150.00 plus your chosen fabric for quilt top.
Students per class: 6
Make your own
a-line skirt
During this class
learn to make your own A-line skirt as well as learning many sewing techniques
along the way. Beverley has a wealth of experience to pass on from her years
working in the fashion industry. We have 3 Bernina sewing machines you can use or bring your
own. you will get the pattern
to keep.
Dates: Friday the 4th
and 11th September
Time: 9.30am to 2.00pm
Cost $160.00 for both days. This includes the skirt pattern which you can keep
(Plus your chosen skirt fabric.You will need to buy twice your length of Prints Charming Fabric, which starts at $26.00 per metre. We would suggest you come into the shop and choose your fabric before the class starts so you can get straight into sewing on the first morning.)
