Still in Victoria and still having a great time. There's been camping, going back in time and well a little bit of time to visit fabric shops. Aren't I lucky that these shops happen to be in beautiful parts of Victoria that happen to be in places we are visiting!
Daylesford is on route from Bendigo to Ballarat. Happen to drive past a shop that sold fabric, said to Steve if we find a spot stop. Stop we did and Prints Charming's "Rainbow Garden" was in the window. Well have to go in really don't I. Threadneedle Craft has only been open for a year and as the name suggests not only caters just for the quilters. Had a great chat with David, one half of the husband and wife team that own the shop, so good to hear that all is going well after their first year. Pop in and visit, if your in town.
Then to Ballarat for a day of living in the 1850's. Sovereign Hill is a reconstructed gold mining town/ living museum. Everything is recreated from Ballarat during the gold rush, associated shops and crafts all on display. Gold panning to be done,
although the highlight for the kids was the boiled lolly shop and the old school house.
Also in Ballarat is Ballarat Patchwork. Popped in for a visit and a cuppa with Emma and Pam. Too busy chatting and forgot to take piccy's of Emma's wonderful shop. Emma has been a great supporter of Prints Charming from the very early days and it was lovely to revisit the shop after our first visit in 2006 or was it 2005???
Off to the Grampians after Ballarat, no fabric shops, just wonderful scenery and camping. Grampians are named after the mountain range of the same name in Scotland. After the cold and blustery weather we had I can see why.
From the mountains to the coast and one of the worlds most spectacular coastal roads, The Great Ocean Road. A fun day of stopping every couple of k's to look at this...
This section of road is also known as the ship wreck coast and after seeing the strenght of the waves on a calm day is easy to see why. Our last stop for the day was at the Cape Otway Light House, just as the rain and wind arrived. Didn't matter.
With the sound of the ocean in the distance, it's time for a cuppa as Steve and I plan the last part of the trip. Via a few fabric shops I'm sure.
All the best for now, Kirsten and family.
